This week begins an exciting stretch in high school sports--basketball playoffs.
With that in mind, I’m planning on dedicating this little column to the girls' hoops teams that take the floor beginning Monday evening with the hopes of making a run at the game’s ultimate prize: a state championship.
What each of these local team did in the regular season means little at this point, and with the won-and-done format of the state tournament, there is no room for a bad game.

I can’t stress to you enough how much fun it is to get out to one of these postseason ball games.
The intensity is wonderful, the atmosphere is incredible and the tension is always high as every possession is important.

With that said, let’s take a brief glance at the district round of the 2011 girls' basketball state tournament.
- Although the official host of the district round is L’Anse Creuse North, the Lady Tars travel to Port Huron High to play their opening round match-up against the Port Huron High Big Reds. The game tips off at 6 p.m. Feb. 28.
- Should the squad get past the opening round, they’ll square off against either Dakota High or Port Huron Northern March 2 at LCN. That game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
- The district final will be contested at 7 p.m. March 4 at LCN.
