Police: Woman Adjusting Bra Holster When She Accidentally Shot Herself

Police have released preliminary findings in the death of Christina Bond, 55, who shot herself in the eye on New Year's Day.

A former military police officer who died after shooting herself in the eye in her Michigan home on New Year’s Day was trying to adjust her handgun in a bra holster when the fatal shot was fired, police said.

St. Joseph Public Safety detectives are still awaiting the full autopsy report in the death of Christina Bond, 55, but said her death in her Lake Michigan home was accidental, The Kalamazoo Gazette/MLive.com.

“She was having trouble adjusting her bra holster, couldn’t get it to fit the way she wanted it to,’ St. Joseph Public Safety Director Mark Clapp said. “She was looking down at it and accidentally discharged the weapon.”

Bond was retired from the U.S. Navy, where she served two terms as an active military police member, according to her obituary. She had recently been elected as a Republican delegate for her precinct.

She was an administrator at Road to Life Church for 15 years and often ministered at the Berrien County Jail. She also was “an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association,” according to her obituary, which described her as “on FIRE for the LORD.”

According to her Facebook page, she was to have been married in January.

St. Joseph police responded to Bond’s home about 5:10 p.m. on New Year’s Day. She was taken to Lakeland Hospital, then transported to Bronson Methodist Center, where she died on Jan. 2.
