Whiz Kid: Erik Winnega
Age: 17
Accomplishments: The L’Anse Creuse High School senior is among the top 32 finalists for the Michigan High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award. Winnega was chosen as a finalist from a pool of 1,900 applicants and will receive a $1,000 scholarship through Farm Bureau Insurance Company.

Winnega is one of three valedictorians at L’Anse Creuse High School and is participating in the state wrestling championships this weekend.
He is a three-sport athlete, competing in football, wrestling and baseball for L’Anse Creuse.

“Erik is a great all-around kid and a great role model for our students,” L’Anse Creuse Principal Patrick Mulcahy said.
