Sports - Northville Mustangs Baseball

The 12U Northville Mustangs capped off a successful season on July 14 beating MSA Livingston 14 – 4 on their way to win the KVBSA North division with an overall record of 16 – 3 . The Mustangs earned tough wins over the Tri City Lightning and Brighton Bulldogs completing their most successful season to date. The Mustangs boasted a balanced offense and defense with significant contributions from all players. Leading the Mustangs offensively were Aidan MacDonald, Ryan Hermanson, Trey Brinker and Grant Males combining for a batting average of 0.492. MacDonald led the team in doubles and Males in triples. Andrew Burns, Trey Brinker, Noah Lindsay and Connor Lee all contributed home runs during the season.
The Mustangs were led defensively all season long by the solid infield play of Noah Lindsay, Evan Chechak, Jacob Trezil and Dawson VanderLugt along with spectacular outfield performances by Connor Lee and Grant Males. A significant ingredient to this year’s winning season can be attributed to pitching, where the Mustangs pitched 9 of 11 players relying heavily on the arms of Nathan Leonard, Evan Chechak, Aidan MacDonald and Ryan Hermanson. Nathan Leonard held the team low ERA.
The season high point for the Mustangs was the week long tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park in Cooperstown, NY. The Mustangs had a sound showing competing against 104 teams from 32 states across the United States and several teams from Canada. Aidan MacDonald, Grant Males and Dawson VanderLugt made Northville proud by competing individually in the Home Run Derby, Road Runner, and Golden Arm competitions respectively. The highlights of the tournament were Andrew Burns two out-of-the-park home runs and the four shut-out innings pitched by Dawson VanderLugt in the Mustangs win against the Martinez Bulldogs of California.
