Community Update

Reaping the benefits of good heart health?   The Go Red For Women Circle of Red Committee is hosting a free heart healthy lecture featuring Dr. Pamela Marcovitz, director of the Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center at Beaumont Health System, on Thursday, June 20th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. The event will be held at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm in the Calf Barn, located at 1005 Van Hoosen Road in Rochester.

Circle of Red is a dynamic, passionate, and powerful group of women who have the influence and resources to significantly impact our community and put an end to the No. 1 killer of women - heart disease.  The group is committed to raise awareness, educate other women, and advocate for women’s heart health in an effort to build healthier lives in metro Detroit.

“The lecture, free to women of all ages, promises to be a great event filled with nutritional information, health screenings, and heart healthy snacks,” said Catherine Smith, director of the Detroit Go Red for Women campaign.

“I want to make a difference in our community by assisting with screening programs and promoting educational forums,” said Marcovitz.  It’s important we know our numbers as it pertains to blood pressure, cholesterol, healthy weight, and exercise,” she said.

Dr. Pamela Marcovitz is a board certified cardiologist and the Medical Director of Beaumont’s Ministrelli Women’s Heart Center, one of the few centers in the United States dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in women.  The center has screened and treated thousands of women since opening in 2002.  Dr. Marcovitz received training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Michigan Medical Center where she was Assistant Professor prior to joining the staff at Beaumont Hospitals.  She received her MD from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She is committed to evaluating, preventing and treating cardiovascular risk factors, heart disease and valvular heart disease in both men and women.
