For 31st Year, Marshmallows Will Fall from the Sky

Thousands of children expected to gather at two Wayne County parks to gather treats that will be traded for prizes.

Thousands of marshmallows will fall from the sky during Friday’s 31st annual Marshmallow Drop at two Wayne County Parks – Elizabeth Park in Trenton at 9 a.m.and Nankin Mills in Westland – at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively

The annual Marshmallow Drop is the start of many fun, free, family-oriented events offered by Wayne County Parks each year, said Wayne County Executive Warren Evans.

More than 20,000 marshmallows will be dropped from a helicopter, and thousands of children will scramble to collect the goodies and trade them in for prizes.

To ensure that everyone has an opportunity to fully participate, children will be divided into age groups: 4 years old and younger; 5 -7 years old; and 8-12 years old.

One colored marshmallow to be found for each of the age groups. The finder of the colored marshmallow will receive an extra special prize.

Elizabeth Park is located on West Jefferson, east of I-75 and south of West Road in Trenton.

Nankin Mills Park is located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail in Westland.

The Wayne County Parks Marshmallow Drop is co-sponsored by Trenton Parks and Recreation, ITC Holdings, Taylor Ford, Flagstar Bank, Zeal Credit Union, KSP Insurance, UAW Region 1A, N Zone Sports, Jack Demmer Ford, Wayne County Community College and Friends of Wayne County Parks.
