Back to School Help for Educators

The Meemic Foundation Helps Clinton Township Educators

Clinton Twp. Mich., Sept. 11, 2015 – Back to school season is an exciting time for students and teachers alike, however, it can also be an expensive time for educators. Many teachers use their own money to purchase basic supplies for their classrooms so that lessons can be facilitated properly and in an inspirational, engaging manner. To help educators this year, the Meemic Foundation, a non-profit organization created by Meemic Insurance Company, gave out 1,000 Back to School grants to ease monetary worries for teachers, totaling $100,000.

The John Gingrich Insurance Agency, a Meemic Insurance partner serving the Clinton Township community, generously handed out 44 Back to School grants to educators within their communities, including Miami Elementary. Each recipient received a $100 Visa gift card to help with the purchase of essential supplies.

“One-hundred dollars can actually make a big difference for educators,” said Pamela Harlin, spokesperson for the Meemic Foundation. “Annually, teachers spend much of their own, hard-earned money on basic items to better educate their students. The Meemic Foundation is pleased to be able to offer assistance so our community’s children have access to proper educational experiences and leave the classroom fully prepared for future success.”

On average, according to a national school supply association, in 2014 public school teachers spent an average of $500 out-of-pocket on their students. The goal of the Back to School grants is to help educators expand their supply closets and equip students with necessary tools for a positive and impactful learning environment.

The Meemic Foundation gives out thousands of grants every year. This is the Foundation’s first installment of Back to School grants, something they plan to continue in years to come.

“We have seen the impact our grants have had in the past,” said Harlin. “We hope that our contributions continue to have an effect on our teachers and the future generation of learners.”
