Livonia Churchill's gym is known to be hostile for opponents. Tonight, however, the Mustangs stared down the odds and conquered the Chargers on their home floor 49-35. Once again, senior Andrew Meacham was the difference, nearly unstoppable as the Northville took a 26-17 lead into halftime. Of the Mustang 26, he accounted for 21 first half points.
Although we jumped out of the blocks to a 16-5 lead after one quarter, Churchill fought back valiantly, always keeping the game with striking distance. The Chargers came out for the second half determined to stop Meacham and take control of the game. Fortunately, senior Malik Bazzi found his game in the second half, scoring 9 of his 11 after the break to help the Mustangs hold on for the victory.
Tonight was another 3 win night for the Northville boys. The JV squad took charge and never looked back for a convincing 74-26 decision. The Freshmen also cruised to a lopsided win, the exact score of which is in question.
The win moves the Varsity Stangs to 2-2 on the young season, and moving into the Christmas break. Next action will be on opening night of the annual Mustang Holiday Tournament on Friday, December 27 at NHS. Look for complete details in the preview article coming up on Thursday December 26.
