Come to the Parade . . . But Come Early!

Come early to the parade.

One of Northville's premier annual events is the the Fourth of July Parade.  My understanding is that this event attracts as many as 10,000 spectators each year.  Being a homeowner on Main Street, we have enjoyed having friends over to watch the parade as an important part of our Independence Day holiday. However, for those of you who may not have been downtown recently, the parade route and corresponding viewing area  by about a third of a mile.

Beginning in early May and continuing until mid- to late August, Rogers Street between Seven Mile Road and West Main Street as well as West Main Street between Wing Street and Rogers have been under construction.  The revised route of the parade will therefore be changed.  I would estimate that, in the past, there have been approximately 2,000 spectators in this third of a mile stretch so, this year, these people will have to relocate to the reduced viewing areas.

I am not trying to discourage anyone from coming downtown. On the contrary, as I stated earlier, this, in my opinion, is one of the finest events of the year. Just come early and expect to "rub elbows" with your friends more than perhaps you did last year.
