The Northville Cubs cranked out hits Friday like Berry Gordy in Motown Records heyday as they cruised to a 9-5 win over the Livonia Rattlers after falling behind early.
The 13U team’s 14-hits were a season high. Cubs’ off-season pick up Eric Rice hit two monster doubles and pitched four strong innings, giving up only one run.
Rice was not the only hitting star. Alex Gaft, Jacob Moody, Matt Whitcomb and Mike Conniff all had two hits.

The Rattlers aggressive running game was thwarted by Moose Tossounian’s strong play behind the plate. He threw out three attempted base stealers.
The Cubs opened the scoring in the first when Moody doubled to left field, driving in Gaft who had opened the game with a single.

After the Rattlers came back to take a 2-1 lead in the first inning, the Cubs put two more runs on the board in the third. Robert Ujkaj drove in Rice, who had got on base with a double. Moody’s ground out brought home Ujkaj.
The lead changed hands again in the bottom half of the third as the Rattlers plated two runs. But the Cubs took control for good in the fourth with a four-run inning.
The Cubs are now 3-0 in KVBSA league play and 9-0 for the season, including tournament and exhibition games. The Cubs are sponsored by the Northville Sports Den and the Michigan Credit Union League.
