How to be a Great Bridesmaid

Tips on how to be a great bridesmaid from a local wedding planner.

Being asked to be in your friend's wedding is such a huge honor. You get to be front and center with the bride on her big day, but there are a lot more responsibilities you can take on to help the bride.

Here is a list of things you could do to help the bride:

  • Invitations - Find out the date by which your bride is planning to have all the invites done. Then gather all the girls together to stuff and address envelopes. Grab a bottle of wine and some treats to turn the night into a fun event.
  • Favors and centerpieces - Help with escort or placement cards or any other DIY projects the bride may be taking on.
  • Distraction - Make sure her "pre-wedding jitters" are under control and keep her occupied. Take her out dancing, to the movies or just hang out and talk about anything but the wedding
  • Drinks - Find out her choice of drink for the big night and make sure it is always full. There are so many distractions during the night she may not be able to make it to the bar as much as she would like.
  • After Hours - As the night is winding down and guest start to leave, the bride and groom will be left to take care of all the things left behind. Help pack up the car and collect anything that needs to be returned to their home or vendors.
  • Honeymoon - Help pack a bag with all the essentials she may have forgotten such as sunscreen, deodorant, camera etc.
