Managing Motherhood: The Good, The Bad and The Poopy

I've come to see motherhood like a club you didn't realize you were joining until you're in it.

Let me just begin by making a proclamation: I am no expert in motherhood.

I want to make that assertion, loud and clear, from the get-go. June Cleaver, I am not. I'm just another new mom you see strolling down the sidewalk with my 26- month-old son, trying to get through the day with my sanity intact along this unpredictable journey called parenthood.

Sure, I have a degree in Psychology and Social Work – Laaa dee daaa – that I thought gave me an advantage in the motherhood department. Wrong. Sure, you can educate yourself on child development and gather knowledge on the subject, but when it comes to this gig, there's not much you can do to fully prepare yourself. It's a buckle-up-and-enjoy-the-ride kind of experience.

My reasoning behind posting a blog on the subject is merely to share my humble thoughts and experiences along the way, and perhaps, in the process, pass on something that may help a newer mother inadvertently.

I've come to see motherhood like a club you didn't realize you were joining until you're in it. When I pass another mom in the mall or the park, we swap a sympathetic smile, knowing that we are bonded merely by the shared experience, not unlike a sisterhood or some elite sorority where the rite of passage is child birth (which, by the way, makes hazing look like a cake walk.)

So, here's to the moms (dads, we love you too, but I wouldn't venture to write from a perspective outside my own.) And here's to our daily joys and challenges in managing motherhood...the good, the bad, and the poopy.
