Northville Boys' Basketball Loses in District First Round
Season ends with loss to Plymouth in District 18
The Northville boys basketball team is playing host this week to the District 18 First Round of the MHSAA Class A Boys Basketball Tournament. Coming into Monday night’s game the Mustangs had won 7 of their last 8 games and had lost only 2 games at home all year, so hopes were high that they could advance in the postseason. However those hopes were quickly ended by the Plymouth Wildcats by a score of 48-37. Northville led 6-2 midway through a low scoring first quarter and settled for an 8-7 lead after the first 8 minutes. However Plymouth scored the first 9 points of the second period before Malik Bazzi hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 16-11. The Mustangs scored only two more points in the quarter which ended with Plymouth leading 20-13.
Northville came out strong after halftime scoring the first 5 points, including another Bazzi 3- pointer, to cut the lead to 2. However the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 28-18; the lead was 31-22 at the end of the third quarter. Northville scored first in the final period on a 3-pointer by Andrew Meacham to reduce the deficit to 31-25, but Plymouth ran off the next 5 points before the Mustangs could score again. Northville could not get any closer than 9 points the rest of the way. With the loss the season ends for the Mustangs and their 5 seniors - Alec Lasley, Stewart Henzi, Jake Hansen, Andrew Jelso, and Austin Rogers. District 18 First Round action continues through Wednesday at Northville High School.
