Northville Cubs Improbable Rally Leads to Tie

Northville Cubs 13U baseball

The Northville Cubs 13U baseball team’s never say die attitude was in full force Tuesday as they fought back from two large deficits to ultimately escape with a 12-12 tie against LCB Gold.

Down 12-8 going into the last inning, Reed VanTiem’s sharp single to left drove in Jacob Moody and Matt Whitcomb to knot the score at 12 and complete the Cubs second improbable rally of the game. Robert Ujkaj started the inning with a line drive single down the left field line. Aram Shahrigian doubled and Moody walked to load the bases. Whitcomb singled to right to drive in the first two runs of the inning.

Shahrigian came in to pitch the bottom half of the sixth inning. He shut down LCB before the game was called on account of darkness.

After the Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the second when Eric Rice’s hard single up the middle drove in Michael Lionas, LCB Gold put nine runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a barrage of hits.

The Cubs came right back with six runs of their own in the third to get within striking distance at 9-7. Moody, VanTiem and Rice all had clutch RBI hits in the frame.
