Classical Bells Concert takes Audience "Ringing Around the World"

Classical Bells, a performing ensemble based in Livonia since 1984, invites you on a musical journey of Ringing Around the World in Color, May 5, 2023, 7:00 p.m. at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 30900 Six Mile Road, Livonia.

This concert is a special offering in the group's spring season. It's dedicated to the memory of Barbara Erickson, a founding member of Classical Bells, who died on March 6, 2023. Barbara's career in the world of handbells spanned four decades of directing at St Matthew's United Methodist Church, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, and Newburgh United Methodist Church, all in Livonia, Michigan.

Barbara was beloved for her musical and directing skills, but also her quick wit, sense of humor, wisdom and kindness. Darlene Ebersole, who has directed Classical Bells for the past 34 years, was introduced to the instrument by Barb Erickson, and considered Barb a respected mentor and a dear friend.

"It's an honor to offer this concert in Barb's memory," Ebersole said. "Our lives entwined for over 45 years, and she played such an important part in bringing the art of handbells to so many people. She will be missed by many.”

The program features music with an international flavor, including: An Irish Medley, Valses les Adieux, and Bwana Asife. Classical Bells concerts are known for their sensitive musical interpretation, technical skill, informal choreography, and a dash of humor, inviting audiences to experience handbells in a way they never have before.
