Crime Report: 4 Arrests After Traffic Stops, Theft From Charity Donation Box

A summary of police reports from Feb. 22 to March 4.

Theft from construction site

A man working on a new home on Johnson Creek Drive reported that someone had stolen wiring, copper pipes and a shower valve from the site. According to police reports, the wiring was installed and hooked up to breakers when it was stolen sometime between the afternoon of Feb. 22 and the following morning. The alleged thief used wire cutters to clip them at the base.

There was no front door on the building; It was secured with plywood and locked with a hook and eye latch, according to the report.

Car broken into at Hampton Inn

A man staying at the on Eight Mile and Haggerty roads reported that his rental car window was smashed in, according to township police reports. The man told police that sometime overnight on Feb. 22, he left the car in the lot and that he did not hear anything during the night. He told police that he did not notice that anything was stolen.

Man with expired plate arrested on a warrant

A man stopped by police on Northville and Six Mile roads, was arrested on Feb. 25 around 11 p.m. His expired plates prompted the stop, according to police reports. His car was towed and police turned him over to Dearborn Heights police, who had sought a warrant for his arrest.

Magnetic signs stolen from taxi

A man reported that his magnetic taxi signs had been stolen from his car. According to township police reports, sometime between 1 a.m. and the afternoon of Feb. 23, he noticed his signs were gone from his car parked on the 20000 block of Bryn Mawr. The man also reported that some of his business papers had been stolen from inside the car.

Man arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license

A man was pulled over on Feb. 27 around 1:30 a.m. by police because the light over his license plate was "not illuminated," according to township police reports. Police then ran his license plate and discovered his license was suspended. They arrested him for driving with a suspended license and searched his vehicle.

During the search, police discovered he has was reportedly in possession of a suspected marijuana grinder and a suspicious "baggie." They confiscated the items The man, who told police he was dropping someone off at the on Seven Mile Road, was charged only with the suspended license because the confiscated items yielded "insufficient plant material present in the baggie and marijuana grinder to test." He wasn't charged with possession of marijuana, according to the report.

Man with expired license plate arrested

An officer on Eight Mile and Haggerty pulled over a car on Feb. 27 around 2:41 a.m. after noticing its muffler "almost touching the ground," according to reports. The officer also saw the car's plate was expired in January. When he pulled the man over, the driver admitted to having expired license. He was arrested for driving with a suspended license and on a civil warrant out of East Lansing.

Man pulled over for high beams on also had warrants

Officers stopped a man on Seven Mile, near the , because his vehicle's high beams were on as he passed traffic, including the officer who pulled him over. According to police reports, the light over his license plate was also not working. His license was also expired.

According to the police report: Officers discovered he had two warrants out of Dearborn Heights and one out of Detroit.

He was arrested, his car impounded and given two tickets: one for driving with a suspended license, for which he posted a $300 bond, and a second ticket for failing to dim his brights.

Theft From Charity

Two boxes outside the Kohl's store on Haggerty near Eight Mile road were stolen – they were donation boxes for a charity.

The man with the charity, American Textile Recycling Services, told police that when he came to empty the boxes, he saw that the locks on the boxes were cut and the contents were low. Usually, the boxes reportedly yield 800 to 1,000 pounds in various kinds of donations. When he arrived, there was about 30 pounds in donations, according to the report.

The theft took place sometime between Feb. 22 and Feb. 27.

Man abandons car, is tracked by police and arrested

Police responded to a call near Silver Springs Drive and Scenic Lane on Feb. 28 around 10:15 p.m. about a suspicious unoccupied car parked far into the road.

Using the plate to track the owner, police discovered that the owner had warrants out for his arrest out of Dearborn and Inkster. Police later found him at his listed address with his small children.

Officers informed him of his outstanding warrant and to turn himself in at the police station when his spouse returned, so that someone could stay with his kids  until then. He later did return with $300 to post bail.
