Crime Report: Car Break-ins Reported Around City and Township

The following information was supplied by the city of Northville Police Department and Northville Township's Public Safety Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Township police believe car break-ins are related

Northville Township police say they have seen a string of what they believe are related vehicle break-ins near Seven Mile and Silver Spring Drive. According to township police reports, there were about six incidents of vehicles broken into in the township and city since the evening and overnight hours of Nov. 10:

  • At the Swan Harbour Apartments, a woman reported that someone broke into a vehicle, rummaged through the contents of the glove box but that nothing was taken. She told police that her car alarm did not appear to have been activated and that she did not recall if the car had been locked.
  • A resident of the Northville Woods Apartments reported to police that she discovered her car door was slightly ajar on the morning of Nov. 11. According to the police report, she discovered her glove box contents in disarray and that her GPS device was missing.
  • On the 19000 block of Crystal Lake Drive, near Hayes Court, a resident reported that the car’s glove box had been emptied but nothing appeared missing.
  • A break-in at a car parked at the Highland Lakes subdivision clubhouse was also reported to have occurred sometime in the overnight hours of Nov. 10. According to the police report, the rear passenger window had been smashed out. Nothing appeared to be missing, the owner told police.

Man charged with possession of drug paraphernalia

While on patrol, township police saw a car parked around 3 a.m. near the cemetery at Six Mile and Napier roads, according to a police report. The officer reported that he saw three people around the car with beer cans.

Police patted down the three people. On one of the men, a 21-year-old Novi man, according to the report, a marijuana pipe was found. He was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted a $100 bond and is due to appear in the 35th District Court in a few weeks.

Woman arrested, charged with shoplifting at Kohl's

On Nov. 10, township police say they arrested a 21-year-old Flint female who is accused of stealing an Ed Hardy perfume bottle from Kohl’s on Haggerty Road.

According to the police report, store security saw her conceal the bottle in her purse and leave without paying. She was arrested and charged with retail fraud. She posted a $100 bond and is due to appear in the in a few weeks.

Trespassers at Seven Mile property cited

Two people were found trespassing on Nov. 13 at the former psychiatric hospital site on Seven Mile Road. According to the township police report, the two were cited, released at the scene and due to appear in the 35th District Court.

Police discover man with eight vials of illegal herbal substance

While on patrol on Nov. 9, city police pulled over a car whose plate was registered to another vehicle. Soon, according to the police report, the officer discovered what is known as K2, a synthetic herbal marijuana-like substance.

The 18-year-old Novi driver was found with 13 blunts and eight vials of various kinds of the marijuana-like substance, which police said is illegal in Michigan.

The case, according to the report, has been turned over to the prosecutor to determine if charges will be pursued.

The man was not arrested because he had a medical marijuana card. But he was charged with violations tied to the improper use of his license plate and the car was impounded.

Car break-ins reported in city

  • A resident of the 1000 block of Allen Drive reported to city police that his car had been broken into sometime overnight on Nov. 12. His satellite radio receiver had been stolen, according to the report. And the contents of his glove box were moved around. He told police a second car of his also showed signs of tampering. He said the satellite radio receiver on that car had been moved but that nothing appeared to be stolen.
  • A resident on the 900 block of Jeffrey Drive reported to police that someone had broken into his car and stolen his compound bow and accessories on Nov. 12.

Counterfeit money found at Northville Downs

Workers at discovered a fake $50 bill sometime between Nov. 5-6, according to city police reports.

Fight involving 30 people reported at Brick's

City police say they responded to a fight involving 30 people at the bar Brick's on Nov. 5 around 2 a.m.

According to the responding officer's report, which included several witness interviews, "I believe it is possible that there were several difference fights that occurred nearly simultaneously and that the majority of the subjects involved has left prior to our arrival."

The dispute began with a man who believed another man was bothering his girlfriend, according to the report. The man who might have started the fight reported having several stitches and a concussion as a result of the brawl.
