Crime Report: Cop Stops Hurdle Theft, Nature Area Vandalized

Following are highlights of recent police reports:

Man caught attempting to steal hurdle from Northville High School

A 19-year-old Novi man attempted to flee from police after being caught trying to steal a track hurdle from , according to township police reports.

A police officer spotted the man around 3 a.m. Saturday in the high school parking lot and approached him. As the officer got closer, the man tried to run in different directions, fell, gave up and surrendered to police.

He admitted to trying to steal one of the high school's hurdles on a dare from friends as well as a metal sign.

The police report indicates the officer detected the smell of alcohol and the man was tested. His alcohol levels were over the legal limit, according to the report. He was arrested and released on a $300 bond.

Coldwater Springs Nature Area vandalized

On April 21, a  employee reported the ballisters on the stream overlook at Coldwater Springs Nature Area had been kicked out, according to township police reports.

The employee reported the 40 ballisters kicked out at the nature area, near Five Mile and Ridge roads, ocurred sometime between 9 a.m. April 20 and 7 a.m. April 21.

Car reported keyed in Kroger lot

A Livonia man reported Sunday that his car was keyed while parked in the parking lot near Five Mile and Haggerty roads, according to Northville Township police reports. When he came back from shopping around 5:15 p.m., he noticed scratches along the side and rear of the car, he told police.

Wallet allegedly stolen at Meijer

A Farmington Hills woman reported that her wallet was stolen from her purse at Meijer on Haggerty and Eight Mile roads. The woman said she was shopping about 11 a.m. April 19 and noticed it was missing when she went to pay at the register. She said she checked the lost and found are, but it was not located.

iPad stolen from car

A Novi woman reported to township police that her iPad was stolen from the back seat of her car while she was running errands Friday.

According to township police reports, the woman said she did not notice signs of forced entry on the vehicle and she did not recall if her vehicle was locked while she shopped at stores such as and on Haggerty Road. 

Motorcycle stolen from apartment carport

A man at the apartments reported that his motorcycle was stolen from under his carport during the day Saturday.
