Crime Report: Man Awakens to Son's Truck Being Broken Into, Woman Allegedly Pickpocketed

Man awakens to hear someone stealing in son's truck

On the morning of March 16 a man on the 15000 block of Robinwood Drive awoke to the sound of his son's truck door closing, according to Northville Township police reports. He checked on his son who was still sleeping at the time. They both got dressed and went outside.

According to the report: By the time they got outside, they saw a man near a neighbor's car and started chasing him. During the chase, the man reportedly dropped several items that were taken from the neighbor. Police are still looking for the man who took assorted tools from the truck.

Duffle bags and cash reported stolen from unlocked car

On March 16, on the 41000 block of Rayburn Drive, two duffle bags were reported missing from the back cargo area of an unlocked car parked in a home's driveway. According to township police reports, there was also $40 missing from the glovebox. The car was unlocked.

Another alleged theft from an unlocked car

On March 16, a leather bag was reported stolen from a home on the 1900 block of Neptune Court. Someone entered the unlocked pick-up truck and stole a leather bag containing miscellaneous clothing which was in the back of the truck. Nothing else was missing and there was no damage to the truck, according to the police report.

Man who allegedly drove carelessly in Meijer parking lot arrested

On March 18, township police responded to the store on Haggerty Road  when they spotted another vehicle operating carelessly in the parking lot. According to police reports, the driver of the car squealed the tires near the building and accelerated toward the main entrance where pedestrians were entering and exiting the building. Northville Township police reports indicated the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and the man's breath. The 42-year-old Detroit man driving the car failed several field sobriety tests on the spot and reportedly had a high blood alcohol level, according to the report. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Police from several department pursue minivan

Police spotted a reportedly suspicious dark-colored minivan on Seven Mile near Haggerty roads.

According to a police report: Northville Township Police pursued the minivan, which reportedly had no licence plate posted, until the driver ran a red light near Seven Mile and Newburgh roads. That's where Livonia police began their attempt to stop the vehicle as well but ended their pursuit at Seven Mile and Inkster roads. Despite using full police lights and sirens, the fleeing minivan got away.

Woman reports being pickpocketed

An 80-year-old Farmington Hills woman told township police she was shopping at the store near Eight Mile and Haggerty roads on March 11 when someone bumped into her and stole her wallet from her coat pocket. The wallet contained numerous gift cards and about $125 in cash.

Woman arrested for retail fraud

Store security at the store on Haggerty Road observed a young woman take clothes into a dressing room at the store and allegedly leave with them in a black bag without paying. When confronted in the parking lot, the woman reportedly confessed to taking clothes and household goods. The 19-year-old was arrested for retail fraud by township police.

Traverse City man claims camera stolen during family visit

Northville Township police got a call in the early morning of March 21 from a Traverse City man who said his camera and photography equipment were taken from his van during a family visit. According to a police report, the 31-year-old man told police he had left the camera and equipment in a van parked outside a home on the 19000 block of Silver Springs Drive and didn't notice it was missing until he returned home Up North. The camera and equipment are valued at $2,000.
