Crime Report: Man Caught Stealing From Meijer Found with Marijuana and More

Man arrested for shoplifting at Meijer found with marijuana

Northville Township police responded to a call on August 2 about a theft from that occurred around 5:30 p.m.

Store security reported that a man was seen in the media section using a knife to cut a cell phone out of its box. According to the report, the man was seen putting the cell phone and its other accessories in his shorts pocket before leaving the store without paying. The items are valued at $149.99.

According to the report: The 31-year-old Westland man then got into a car waiting outside and it drove off. Police caught up with the car near Haggerty and Cross roads. He admitted to taking the phone. He was arrested and his female passenger, who was not in the store with him, was released at the scene.

During the booking process, according to the report, the man was found with a baggy of marijuana.

He was arrested on charges of retail fraud and marijuana possession. He is scheduled to appear in the 35th District Court in late August.

Man arrested on warrant, charge of driving with suspended license

A man was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and on a bench warrant out of Warren after police stopped him near Seven Mile and Northville roads.

According to township police reports, the 36-year-old Detroit man was towing a car with his truck and the chain snapped. Police stopped and learned of the warrant and suspended license. He was arrested, his car impounded and his license plate confiscated.

Man stuck in ditch arrested, charged with operating while intoxicated

Police responded to a call about a man whose car was stuck in a ditch in front of a home on the 45000 block of Bloomcrest Drive on August 7.

An officer asked the 31-year-old Northville man “how he got into this mess” to which the man replied that he did not know, according to the police report. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking. The man said he had but was not drunk, according to the report.

When the officer asked the man to step out of the car, he said he could detect the odor of intoxicants, according to the report. He also observed what he described in his report as slow and slurred speech as well as glassy and red eyes. His breath test, according to the report, which was administered at the site, also showed him over the legal limit.

He was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated. His car was towed.

Car break-ins reported

  • A man on the 42000 block of Ravina Lane reported to police that sometime in the overnight hours of August 2, someone had broken into his SUV. The man told police that his sunglasses and two sets of wireless headphones were stolen. According to the report, there were no signs of forced entry.
  • A woman on the 15000 block of Portis Street reported to township police that someone had broken into her car sometime between the evening of August 2 and morning of August 3. According to the police report, nothing appeared to be stolen but the contents of her glove box and center console were strewn about the front seat area.
