Granholm to Schwarzenegger: 'Keep Your Pants Zipped'

From one former governor to another, Jennifer Granholm has advice for Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The former governor, a Democrat from Northville, took to her Facebook page yesterday to link to a Huffington Post article titled Arnold Schwarzenegger Fathered A Child With Member Of Household Staff with the following message: "I'll never understand this: another guy guv admits to cheating on his wife. Maybe we need more women governors. Guys: keep your pants zipped, for Pete's sake."

Her comments seemed to cause a bit of a stir among her Facebook fans.

According to the Huffington Post, the former California governor "has acknowledged that he fathered a child with a member of his household staff, a revelation that apparently prompted wife Maria Shriver to leave the couple's home before they announced their separation last week."

Some of the comments on Granholm's post, which had nearly 250 likes as of Wednesday afternoon, showed agreement with her thoughts on the Republican governor.

One commenter wrote, "Governor Granholm, I'm male, but Amen. I miss your support of the ARTS and our kid's education!"

Another wrote, "Seriously ridiculous! I can't even imagine how betrayed his wife feels by both parties. And that poor child, not to mention his children with his wife. None of us is perfect, but this speaks to some pretty serious character flaws. More women governors! It's the best thing for American families. :-)"

Others were more critical of Granholm's wording.

"Well...we could use more women governors...but that is a separate issue. Women - in positions of authority or not - cheat, too," one commenter wrote.

Soon after, Granholm responded by saying, "I'm not saying women don't cheat, for obviously they do, but I just can't recall one female governor or senator who has. Can anyone?"

One reply said, "Have compassion for him Jenn. Let's not be judgmental. We need to pray for him and the family."

Another said, "Kind of surprised by your sexism here...Cheating women govs just haven't been caught -- I doubt there have never been any, anywhere. Still a big fan though, Governor Granholm."

Later in the afternoon, Granholm elaborated with a post that garnered 90 likes and 23 comments as of late Wednesday afternoon.

"By the way: there are lots of great men out there serving in positions of leadership," she wrote. "Let’s support them and encourage good people – men and women – to run for office. My prayers are with Arnold and Maria’s family, and peace to everyone involved."

Granholm also used her Twitter account, GovGranholm‎, to make a comment about the situation.
