April is Parkinson's Awareness Month

The Northville City Council voted Monday night to declare April Parkinson's Awareness Month.

Tyrone Baharozian of the Michigan Parkinson Foundation talked to the City Council about the disease and also announced that it will hold a 5K walkathon fundraiser May 15 at Northville High School to benefit the largely volunteer-based organization.

He told the City Council more about the disease, including the fact that “it has no known cause, and there is no known cure,” he said.

City budget sessions to begin this week

Finance Director Sandi Wiktorowski talked to the City Council about the upcoming budget sessions and proposed budget.

The city will hold budget sessions this month to discuss the staff’s proposed 484-page budget.

The first session will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at . It is an open meeting.

HVAC replacement approved

Northville-based Long Mechanical was granted a contract by the City Council “in the not-to-exceed amount of $218,000 for the City Hall HVAC Upgrade Project,” according to a report by the city’s public works director. The company had the lowest bid, according to city documents, and the money will come from the city's Public Improvement Fund.

The heating, ventilating and air conditioning system and bids to replace it were reviewed by the city engineer. Among the highlights of the new system are digital controls, City Manager Patrick Sullivan said.
