In a season already full of magical moments, the Northville Cubs topped themselves again Wednesday as Jacob Moody's line single to right drove in Mike Conniff for a walk off win against LCB Black.
The two teams entered the game in the KVBSA Trammell Division's top spots with the Cubs holding a two game edge in the loss column. Both teams battled all game as the lead changed hands several times.
The Cubs held a slim 7-6 lead heading into the last inning. LCB pushed one run across the plate in the top half of the seventh but a ground out to Eric Rice at second base with the bases loaded left the game tied.
With one out in the bottom half, Conniff coaxed a walk on a full count. After stealing second with two outs, LCB intentionally walked Aram Sharigian. Moody made them pay the price with his line shot. Conniff scored on a close play at the plate. The Cubs players poured onto the field to celebrate their win as they moved to 9-0-1 in league play.
LCB brought their big bats out early, scoring four runs in the first frame on several hard hit balls. The Cubs got one run back in the bottom half of the first when Moose Tossounian's single to left drove in Shahrigian, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
Tossounian's pitching shut down LCB in the second and the Cubs scored three runs to tie the game. Conniff's double to right drove in both Matt Whitcomb and Alex Gaft. Robert Ujkaj's hard grounder drove in Mike Lionas.
LCB regained the lead with one run in both the third and fourth inning, but the Cubs fought back again with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the fourth.
The Cubs moved to 25-3-1 for the season. The Cubs are proudly sponsored by both The Northville Sports Den and the Michigan Credit Union League.
