Northville H.S. Rowing Club to hold Annual Rowathon
Cheer on the Northville Rowing Club as they row from Detroit to Mackinac at the 2016 Fall Rowathon on Saturday, October 15!

Plan to stop by the courtyard of the Stampeddler building at the corner of Dunlap and Center streets to root for your Northville Rowers on Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Northville Rowing Club (NRC) crew will give the rowing machines (ergometers or ergs) a hard work-out as they attempt to collectively row the distance from Detroit to Mackinac. There will be nine rowing machines going for the entire eight-hour period as each rower completes two one-hour shifts on the ergs.
The goal is to raise $8,500 for the Northville Rowing Club, a co-ed team of Northville High School athletes. As a club sport activity rather than a school-sponsored sport, NRC relies on the financial support of its members and community. Rowers are approaching area businesses for event sponsorship and asking family, friends and community members for pledges to help them reach this goal. These funds help pay for maintenance of the club’s equipment, which include single, double, four-person and eight-person boats.
The club formed in 2011 and has grown to include forty-six rowers this year. Rowers practice daily after school during the fall and spring seasons on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti and compete in regattas on the weekends throughout Michigan and Ohio. The team trains on the ergometers at the high school during the winter and when high winds or storms prevent them from practicing on the water.

Leading up to this journey to Mackinac, NRC will be competing in the Head of the Grand Regatta in Lansing on October 8. After encountering rough waters at Toledo’s Frogtown Regatta in late September, the team is eager to demonstrate their skills in Lansing.
Everyone is encouraged to stop by and cheer on the rowers at the Rowathon event in downtown Northville. For more information about the club or to make a donation, please visit www.NorthvilleRowing.com.
