Northville Mayor Won't Run for Re-Election After 28 Years in Office

Chris Johnson announced his intentions Monday in a letter to the City Council.

The last time Northville had a mayor who wasn’t Chris Johnson, Bruce Willis was known as just a TV actor, Brian Cox was the only performer to play Hannibal Lecter, and Taylor Swift still hadn’t even been born.

In a letter to the City Council this week, Johnson said he wouldn’t be running for re-election in November, according to a Hometown Life report.

“I don’t know if there is ever a ‘right time’ to leave, but all things considered, the city is in pretty good shape,” Johnson stated in his letter, which he wrote because he couldn’t attend Monday’s council meeting, according to the report.

Johnson was first elected as mayor in 1987, the report stated. He was last elected in 2013.
