Northville Patch's Whiz Kid: Yunchen Tian

Accomplishment:  Winning the State National Geographic Geography Bee for Michigan in 2008 which gave him the opportunity to compete in the nationals in Washington D.C.

Key to Awesomeness: Yunchen is not your average high school student. He has a full course load, including five Advanced Placement classes as well as an honors English class. He is part of his high school’s Quiz Bowl team, Model UN and National Honors Society.  In 2009-2010, Yunchen took part in a fellowship program with the American Philatelic Society where he researched how to sell postal stamps on a professional level to people who collect as a hobby. Yunchen currently is researching the Russian postal history.

When Yunchen is not working on his stamp research or studying, he spends his time tutoring in various subjects. He especially likes to tutor in history and social studies and considers it his passion.
