Northville Police: Driver in 8 Mile and Haggerty Crash "Had Been Drinking"

The Northville Township Police Department is awaiting lab results to confirm whether or not the driver was drunk.

The driver who caused an accident Sunday night on Haggerty Road near the intersection of Eight Mile Road in Northville Township may be criminally charged. Four people were injured and taken to area hospitals as a result of the accident.

"Alcohol was a factor,"Northville Township Public Safety director John Werth said.

He added that the accident is still under investigation but that the driver "had been drinking." The amount of alcohol that the Livonia man, who allegedly drove a Chevy Tahoe over the center lane and into a Buick SUV, is not being released as the accident is examined.

The case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor. The driver's name is not being released.

The three people in the Buick SUV that was hit suffered several injuries. Two of them were from Ann Arbor and the 16-year-old driver of the vehicle is from Farmington Hills. The driver of the Chevy Tahoe also suffered injuries.

The extent of the injuries in unknown but people who represent themselves as members of the family have commented on a , indicating that while they were hospitalized, they are slowly getting better.

Werth said that everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt at the time.
