Northville Rowers Launch Season at Beautiful Belle Isle

The Northville Rowing Club has successful first regatta of the fall season at Dossin Invitational on Belle Isle in Detroit.

The Northville Rowing Club competed in their first regatta of the season on Sunday, September 11, when the 8th Annual Dossin Invitational Rowing Regatta convened at the historic Detroit Boat Club on Belle Isle. Crews in boats of eight, plus coxswains, swept past both the Windsor and Detroit skylines as they completed the 5K course around the tip of the island and under the iconic MacArthur Bridge.

Northville entered three boats of seasoned rowers, all of whom seemed eager to build their endurance and get the first fall event underway. NRC’s crews fought through the wakes of the freighters sharing the waters of the Detroit River and found their rhythm for a successful initial outing.

Earning third place with a time of 20:52.55 in the Women’s 8+ event were seniors Jackie Cole, Melissa Pearson, Maya Sankaran, Kylie VanLoo, Bella Wood, juniors Belle Cureton, Rachel Winfield and sophomore Sara Bennett, led by senior Coxswain Bethany Holub.

Daniels, Aaron Shute, Brett Somerville, sophomores Nick Cemalovic, Andrew Crowell, Mitchell Encelewski and sophomore Coxswain Nicholas Bhandari finished with a time of 19:07.74.
