Northville Schools Board Honors Two New Eagle Scouts

Two Eagle Scouts achieved their new rank by completing community projects around Northville.

The Northville schools board of education honored the two new Eagle Scouts at a meeting earlier this month.

Thomas Mario Franchi achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by completing a project on the Amerman Elementary School baseball diamond.

"It was in a really bad state of disrepair," said Ken Roth, board president.

His project included:

• adding home and visitor benches
• resurfacing the field
• repairing and painting the fence
• leveling and seeding the outfield

Franchi said the new benches can be removed in the winter time to prevent them from getting ruined from snow and rain.  He said he asked some of the parents who were there for a game and was told they were grateful for the improvement.

Michael Alexander Rootare collected toiletries for Northville Civic Concern to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

"What most people think of is food as the main item to collect for them," he said.

Rootare sent out bags and letters to the community asking for donations and coordinated the collection and delivery of the items. He collected enough toiletries to fill a GMC Yukon XL three times.

He said the supplies filled up his entire living room.

"It was different seeing all of that not in a super market," he said.
