Northville Township Board to Meet Tuesday About Purchase of Robert Scott Prison

The sale of the prison was approved in March by the Michigan legislature.

Northville Township's Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday to decide whether or not the township should buy the Robert Scott Correctional Facility from the State of Michigan for $1.

The meeting will be held in closed session at 7 p.m. with a public comment opportunity available before it ends.

The sale of the property . One of the provisions in the bill, introduced in the state House by Rep. Kurt Heise (R-Plymouth), calls for the property to be offered to the township for $1 before it can be sold to a private developer. The prison closed in May 2009.

At the township's board of trustees meeting last month, supervisor Mark Abbo said the board should at least consider buying the property before it passes on the offer.
