Northville Varsity Colts Exclaim: “The Shoe Fits!”

The Colts beat the Northville Stallions Saturday night 14-8, on what turned Tom Holzer Field into a tension filled defensive land of fiefdom. The first quarter was dominated by the Stallions running game and forcing a turnover. 0-0 was the tally, after some prudent tackling by the Colts.

Tommy Mandell broke free and his coltish teammates right behind, as they hurried the Stallions QB, and forced a turnover on downs. This allowed Colt Quarterback Nick Lauderback to score from six yards out for a score of 6-0. This sum would stand ‘ till the end of the half.

Third quarter highlights included rousing Brett Rankin reception from Lauderback for 25, followed by a riveting snag from Brett Rudolph, good for 18. Points were not added to the scoreboard however, as both teams refused to budge. A Rudolph interception on the Stallions 33 yard line aided in a null and void 3rd.

The Colts picked it up in the fourth when Lauderback found an open Rankin for a quick 10, Declan Byle handed off to Larry (Trey) Brinker III for another 20 yards. Lauderback took the snap at the six and ran a bootleg ( he kept the ball ) and ran it in for a score. Jake Willerer followed with a two point kick for the 14-0 tabulation. The Northville Stallions showed true grit, as they turned a screen pass into a 60 yard gain, only to be stopped at the Colt’s one yard line. Solomon Williams punched it in, and the kick made it 14-8. Danny Sheehan recovered the onside kick attempt to seal the victory and more. The win retained ownership of the most coveted trophy in all the land… prized by cobblers and blacksmiths alike.. The Shoe.

Your Varsity Colts enter round one of the playoffs as the number two seed in their division. Game time 5:00pm, this Saturday, October 22 at Tom Holzer Field against the Walled Lake Braves
