Old Village School Eyes for Shared City-School Building

A local architectural and engineering company is looking at the costs of repurposing a school closed two years ago.

City and school officials in Northville are looking shared office space that would make use of the Old Village School, vacant for the past two years.

Both the Northville Board of Education and Northville City Council have given the go-ahead to a local architectural and engineering company to put together cost estimates for the proposed project, the Observer & Eccentric reports.

The two entities are paying Mielock and Associates $92,160 for the initial engineering work, which includes estimates on the cost to repurpose the Old Village School, and renovate the current City Hall and school administrative offices.

Northville City Manager said the Mielock and Associates team has strong backgrounds in both historically authentic renovations and interior design, but also has experience in municipal and school buildings and the approval processes used by both entities.

If the project moves forward, the current City Hall building would likely be sold for redevelopment.
