The Northville Mustangs took up where they left off Monday Night and opened tonight's LAX conference contest versus Canton with the same teamwork and tenacity they showed earlier in the week. Jake Fuller took a perfect pass from Alec Melucci and scored 60 seconds into the first quarter, and the Stangs never looked back. Sticks were flying and bodies were crashing as the action got intense early. Although the game got a bit bogged down when the skies opened and drenched the field and the sell-out crowd, Northville players seemed to revel in the weather and continued to pour it on.
Admittedly, this scribe was unable to keep the dog from eating his stat sheet, so no specific statistics are available with the press deadline rapidly approaching. However, the game was filled with highlights so memorable that no stats are needed. One of those moments demonstrated just how much of a TEAM these guys have become. During a particularly heated exchange, high scoring senior Jake Fuller absorbed a crushing hit and had to be assisted off the field. Momentarily, things looked bad for the home squad. But merely seconds later, junior AJ Batshon, replaced Fuller, raced down field, took a neat pass from John Cooke, and buried the shot to ease any worries Mustang fans might have felt.
Another notable moment came as Charlie Morgan became another in the series of D-poles to go coast to coast for a big assist. Coach Durham has the Mustangs hitting on all cylinders and scoring from everywhere. It was another huge night for the Mustangs, and they cruised to an easy 17-9 victory over the Canton Chiefs. Perhaps the only bright spot for the visiting squad was the play of middie, #22. Seems like everybody on both sides was watching The Tahpa!
