Loyal Northville fans could not ask for more from the annual Senior Night game at the Corral tonight as our Mustangs dominated the Cougars from South Lyon East and finished with a 67-41 victory to finish the regular season in style. The win brings the Stangs overall record to 11-5 and 8-2 in the Division. Senior Night is the game when each of the Senior team members gets recognized, along with their families, for their contribution to the team. It is a great way for friends and fans to cheer and thank the Seniors.
Recognized this year are also all 5 of tonight's starters: Malik Bazzi, Joe Hewlett, Andrew Meacham, Dan Simms, and Andrew Stevens. "It's one of our best groups of Seniors ever," bragged Coach Todd Sander, "they will be hard to replace, and sorely missed. But don't forget, the real fun part of the season starts Thursday night!" Coach was referring to the playoffs, which start at home on Thursday evening. Northville has earned the #2 seed from the Central division, and will play the #3 seed from the South, quite likely to be Canton High.
The Mustangs took control early this evening, and never faltered. Scoring by quarter....16-8 after one, 38-18 at half, 54-29 end of three, and a final of 67-41. Andrew Meacham led all scorers with 15. Malik Bazzi chipped in 13, and Andrew Stevens and Nathan Kellum 8 each. The college scouts in the stands were particularly impressed with Kellum's third quarter, which included two great dunks, one of them a perfectly executed oop from Bazzi. Both brought the crowd to their feet and put a exclamation point on the victory for the Mustangs. Everybody got into the action tonight as eleven Mustangs found the bottom of the net, a new high mark for the season.
It was a special community night at the gym tonight as all 13 Northville Travel Basketball teams were recognized at halftime. Players in the 4th through 8th grade were on hand for all the festivities, including the opportunity to sit in on the locker room pregame talk, and greeting the team in the tunnel as they entered the court. It was a great time for all the kids, a time to form some big dreams for future athletic conquests and hometown glory. Everybody left with a smile
Tonight was also Coaches vs. Cancer night, and although final numbers are still be tallied, preliminary indications are for a new fund raising record in this important cause. In addition to the donations made this evening, team members have been working all week to collect money for this year's contribution. All in all, a great team effort......way to go guys!
All three boy's teams continued their streaks with victories this evening for another Mustang sweep. They will try to continue their winning ways next Thursday at the Corral. With all the success, we are expecting another record crowd, so please plan to arrive early to secure a great seat for some hometown hoop!
