Most cars today come equipped with a device called an event data recorder otherwise known as a “black box.” These devices collect information like speed and direction and whether or not you're using a seatbelt. GPS devices all collect driving data.
Most car drivers don't realize how much surveillance they are under. This raises many issues. For example, who owns the information: the driver or the company that may have it? Should information about your driving (for example, speeding) be shared with your insurance company to adjust your premiums? Should driving data be used against a driver in a lawsuit to decide who is responsible for an auto accident? Do you feel comfortable about your information being shared?
Should this information be private or perhaps regulated? What do you think?
