So Close!! Mustangs Fall to John Glen in Conference Semifinal

The Northville Mustangs won three of the four quarters on Monday in Westland, but fell a single point short in their quest to get to the KLAA Conference final.  John Glenn, trailing 24-18 at the half, had a big third quarter to take the lead 33-31 going into the final period.  They stretched the lead to 10 midway through the quarter and then struggled at the charity stripe as Northville mounted a furious charge to get back into the game.

Andrew Meacham and Malik Bazzi combined for all 21 of Northville's points in the 4th.  Both finished with 21 for the game on a night when scoring was hard to find.  Down 10 with about a minute left, Bazzi drove for a huge bucket, but then had to foul to stop the clock.  It was an unselfish play but unfortunately it was Malik's 5th foul.  He would sit the rest out.  After a missed Glenn free throw, Meacham found the mark with a long three.  Again Glenn was unable to convert both free throws.....and the Mustangs had a chance.  Three quick passes later, Meacham again arched a towering three ball that found the mark.

Down 2 with about 10 seconds remaining, a final attempt at three just barely rimmed out and the run was stopped 1 point short.  Final: Westland John Glenn 53 - Northville 52.

The Mustangs finished 2-1 on the evening since both the Freshmen, 49-45, and the JV's 45-30, took care of business.  Next action will be on Thursday night....with the opponent and the venue still to be finalized at press time.  Let's send the Mustangs toward the Districts with a huge show of support on Thursday.  Go Mustangs!
