The song recommendation for this week is Rag Doll, a cover of a Steve Eaton song by Art Garfunkel. That's right, Art Garfunkel did solo things! In fact, the album that Rag Doll is from, Breakaway, was one of his most successful projects.
If you have never heard of Art Garfunkel, he was part of the seventies powerhouse of Simon & Garfunkel. If you have never heard of them, go here to hear one of their international hits, Bridge Over Troubled Water: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjNgn4r6SOA
Now, Breakaway and Rag Doll are both considered to be in the category of adult contemporary, but don't let that scare you away. Garfunkel's angelic voice can turn any boring, snoozer of a song into a classic. Rag Doll radiates warmth and emotion, as many Garfunkel songs do. This is partly due to Garfunkel's voice, and partly due to the original authorship.
Here's a taste of the lyrics: "The wind in the trees sings a sad, sad, sad song/I lie in my bed listenin' all night long/A wind in the trees sing a song just for me/And bring back the Rag Doll to me." As demonstrated by this excerpt, Rag Doll is about lost love and longing for another time.
