Musical Theatre – Musical theatre is a combination of acting and dancing that tells a story through several types of dance including, jazz, ballet and tap.
Combination classes for young children are a mix of ballet and tap. We take great pride in our preschool dance curriculum, which focuses on teaching the little ones proper technique and terminology in a positive atmosphere. As the children are young, we strive to create the right balance of the art dance and fun! We also work to challenge the children’s minds with creative movement activities. The classes focus on movement and also include basic techniques of tap and ballet. Skills are introduced progressively, encouraging creativity and the development of motor and social skills.Jumps, Leaps and Turns (JLT) - This class focuses on fundamental movements that are found in all types of dance. The goal is to fine-tune these skills with proper technique such as flexed toes, posture, positioning and timing.

Tap - Our tap program at PEDC focuses on teaching students classical tap steps, rhythm and technique. Classes consist of warm-up, stretching and building of steps and combinations. Classes are based on age and experience. Classes are available for beginners as well as students who have had some previous tap training.
Lyrical - A contemporary form of dance, which emphasizes a combination of Ballet and Jazz performed to express the lyrics of the music. Our goal is for dancers to feel the emotion of the story through graceful and fluid movements. Students are required to be enrolled in a ballet class as a co-requisite for lyrical.
Jazz – A dynamic style of dance emphasizing movement combinations, strengthening and stretching. Our goal is to teach a strong and flexible technique allowing dancers to learn varied styles and choreography.
Hip-hop - Originated in New York City in the 1970’s. Hip-hop dance incorporates a variety of old and new urban and street dance styles, such as breakdancing, popping, locking and boogying. It represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music. Hip-Hop dance is very dynamic and improvisational in nature, with jumps, breaks, and rotations in the movements. Hip-hop dancing is a great exercise and helps improve flexibility, balance, and coordination.
Acro - Our Acro is based on a skill-progression curriculum. Acro classes focus on three areas of skill -- flexibility, control and strength. Basic acro starts with backbends, walkovers, handstands, forward rolls and cartwheels then builds to aerial work and handsprings as the students become more advanced. Students have lots of fun as they increase their skills and flexibility. Acro classes are also offered as a drop-in class on Friday evenings.
Ballet- Ballet is classical dance form with disciplines in grace and precision using formal steps and gestures set in detailed, flowing patterns, which create expression through movement. Ballet uses the foundational techniques that influence many other dance genres. Cecchetti and Russian are two of the styles of ballet that are taught at Performers Edge. Ballet classes are offered for children starting at 3 years old as well as for adults.
Cecchetti- The Cecchetti method is a ballet technique and the main training system of classical ballet. This method of ballet strives to train the dancers by reducing ballet to an exact science. The Cecchetti technique focuses on the flowing and bending of the arms between positions. Students are taught to think of the movements of their legs, arms, feet, and head as one in relation to their whole body. Cecchetti technique focuses on smooth transitions between positions, fast footwork, and clean lines. We offer Cecchetti instruction in Grade 1 thru Grade 3. Our instructors are trained and certified in the Cecchetti method.
Pointe- Pointe is a technique in classical ballet that focuses on pointe work, the dancers support all their body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. Pointe work is done in pointe shoes, and uses structural reinforcing to distribute the dancer’s weight load throughout the foot. Here at Performers Edge our instructors will guide your dancer through the stages and training that is necessary to prepare them to go on pointe.
Chorus is a group of dancers who together perform high-energy, synchronized routines. Chorus dance incorporates jazz and ballet styles of dance as well as synchronized kicks. Enrollment in a jazz class is a co-requisite for this class.
