The Rockford Rams came to town on Saturday afternoon, and it looked like they were going to cruise away with an easy victory after leaping out to a big 6-1 lead with 3 minutes left in the first half. Northville looked as if they left their luck on the beach as ball after ball caromed off the posts and many seemingly simple scoring opportunities slipped away. Rockford was moving the ball with precision and took advantage of nearly every scoring chance.
But, as so often happens after a long layoff, the Mustangs came alive to change the nature of the game. Two quick goals to end the half brought the tally to 6-3 at half, a more manageable deficit. Coach Durham and his staff went to work making halftime adjustments which apparently hit home since the Northville players came out like a new team to start the half. Three shots found the mark in the 3rd period and the Mustangs drew even at 6-6. Another three goals to start the 4th period made for a 8-0 run and put the Stangs ahead for good at 9-6. The teams would trade goals to finish the game, and the Mustangs won 10-7.
Alec Melucci had 4 big goals for Northville, while the Fuller boys Jake & Alex, and the Sweeney brothers, Brennan and Connor, along with John Cooke all put goals in the books. The story of the game, though was likely the lockdown defense applied by the whole Mustang defensive crew, led by goalie Alex Justice which held the high powered Ram offense to a single goal in the second half.
