The arrest of Jamie Lewis caused a stir among corrections officials after San Diego authorities reported they’d tracked down the Michigan fugitive and had her in custody, according to an Associated Press report on MLive.

Lewis, who went by the name of Judy Hayman back in the 1970s, was serving a sentence for attempting to steal women’s clothing when she escaped from custody.
She was captured in San Diego in February and spent more than a month in jail before she was released.

It turns out that Lewis returned to Michigan in 1982 to straighten out things and was excused from serving any additional time, her attorney told the AP.
None of that information made it into Lewis’s file, Corrections Department spokesman Russ Marlan said.
