Pieces of the car, including paint, are currently undergoing analysis, Goss said. Police have also determined that the damage to the SUV may not be very extensive. The light bulb on the passenger side may have still been working, despite the hit, but the assembly was damaged.
"It's very possible there’s a dent in hood. The car was reported traveling 30 mph. It wasn’t a high speed," Goss said.
Goss added that police know that there is no way the driver did not know someone had been hit, based on witness accounts of how Green was struck by the SUV.
"I don’t know why they didn’t stop. We’re gonna assume it’s because their license wasn't valid or they were drinking ... They were afraid," he said.
He further urged the driver to fess up.
"We put a lot of man hours into this. I would seriously think about getting myself an attorney and turning myself in."
He added, "If we have to track you down, chances are there’s not going to be a plea bargain."
Goss said that Green's family and friends have helped in the search for the driver.
"(Green) was a young, 25-year-old single male with a bright future. He's survived by a brother, sister, mother … all of whom are grieving over this," Goss said. "This has affected not just the entire family but friends as well. This is a well-respected person. He had his whole life ahead of him."
