Novi Car Dealership Hit by Fraud Connected to Police Officer Shooting

Police say two men under investigation for fraud bought car parts from six metro Detroit dealerships.

A fraud investigation that resulted in a Novi Police officer shooting a suspect in Detroit has ties to a Novi car dealership.

According to a WJBK-TV report, Marty Feldman Chevrolet is among six dealerships visited by two men who paid for $30,000 worth of auto parts they ordered with bad checks and fraudulent credit cars.

"They're reselling the parts on the street for a much higher cost, and obviously they're getting them for virtually free," Novi Police Chief David Malloy told the station.

As Novi Patch previously reported, investigators participated in a coordinated operation Thursday morning in the vicinity of Warren Road and Grandville Street in northwest Detroit. The WJBK report noted the Secret Service task force was made up of federal, state and Novi officers.

One of the suspects was immediately taken into custody. The second suspect entered his vehicle and attempted to run over a Novi Police Detective, who was on an adjacent sidewalk abutting a building. In fear for his life, the detective discharged his duty weapon to stop the threat, a department press release stated.

The suspect crashed his vehicle in the area of Piedmont Street and Plymouth Road, then ran and was eventually caught Michigan State Police Troopers. The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Detroit Police Department.
