The facility is closed as investigators were trying to determine if the death or illnesses are connected to the center.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — The DaVita Dialysis Center in Novi is closed after a patient died and several others were hospitalized after receiving treatment at the facility, according to police.

Officers were called to search for a missing 72-year-old patient, who had been last seen earlier Sunday at the dialysis center, located near Grand River Avenue and Beck Road, according to police.

Police said the family became concerned when the patient didn't return home after their appointment at the center.

Officers found the elderly person dead inside a car in the facility's parking lot, according to police, who don't suspect foul play.

Investigators then reached out to Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital. Staff told them that "several patients who had recently received treatment at the Novi DaVita Dialysis Center had sought medical care."

Four patients were admitted into the hospital, including one who is in the intensive care unit, according to police.

A fifth patient was also hospitalized following treatment at a DaVita Southfield location, according to police.

Investigators have not yet established any connection between the illnesses or the death and treatment received at DaVita Dialysis, according to police.

The facility is closed as the investigation continues.

"We are aware of the incident and out of respect for patient privacy, we are unable to comment on its specifics. Our unwavering focus remains on delivering exceptional care for our patients, many of which are medically vulnerable with complex care needs," a DaVita Dialysis statement reads.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Novi Police Department at 248-348-7100.
