DCDS Students Named 2016 National Merit and Achievement Semifinalists
Twenty-eight students recognized as some of the highest scoring entrants in the state

Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) announced that 28 senior class students were named 2016 National Merit and Achievement Semifinalists and will have the opportunity to compete for approximately 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million. DCDS Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.
“It is with great pride that we recognize these students for the high level of hard work and individual scholarship that goes into this impressive achievement,” said Shilling. “Our students are honored among approximately 16,000 of the nation’s brightest scholars, and serve as strong representatives of the world-class academic opportunities provided by our faculty and community at Detroit Country Day School.”
Semifinalists are categorized as the highest scoring entrants in each state. About 1.5 million junior class students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program each year by taking the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. In order to qualify as a semifinalist, students must score well on the qualifying test, earn SAT scores that validate the student’s performance on the qualifying test, possess an outstanding academic record throughout high school, and be recommended by the high school principal. The finalists’ scholarships will be presented in spring 2016.
