Opening Minds: Mental Health Literacy

On Wednesday, February 22 from 7-8:30 pm, Eric Hipple will lead the second of three interactive programs entitled Mental Health Literacy for Opening Minds, a forum for the discussion of brain science and mental health.  The programs are being co-sponsored by the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority and the Novi Public Library.   The program is will take place at the Novi Public Library at 45255 W. Hipple has become nationally known as a speaker about mental health issues since he lost his son to suicide in 2000.   He shares his story daily to prevent it from happening to others. This program, Mental Health Literacy, will answer basic questions:  What does it mean to be mentally healthy? Why am I feeling this way?  When do I need to see a doctor? What kind of doctor should I see?  How can I talk to the doctor?  Eric’s personal down to earth style will assist everyone to understand and come to terms with mental illness, using language that can help us and others explain and understand how we feel.
