Facebook Post Leads Police to Couple's Bodies

An alarming Facebook post led Novi police to the discovery of a man and woman police believe died in a murder-suicide.

According to Sunday reports on WWJ/CBS Detroit and the Observer & Eccentric, a friend of the couple called police after reading the post. When authorities arrived at the apartment unit near Beck Road and Pontiac trail, they found the man, 40, and woman, 36.

Both died of gunshot wounds, police said.

Sgt. John Nelson told the Observer and Eccentric the request for a welfare check came from a high school friend of the male.

“The caller, a longtime friend of the 40-year-old male resident, read a Facebook post which alarmed him and alluded to the eminent death of not only the male, but his 36-year-old wife,” Novi Assistant Police Chief Jerrod Hart told the Observer & Eccentric. “Once officers determined the exact address of the couple, they entered the apartment with the assistance of management shortly before 3 p.m.”

Police recovered a handgun registered to the husband. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled their deaths a murder-suicide.

The couple lived alone and had no children, according to reports.
