Fermented Foods: Healing Leaky Gut & More

Learning to make homemade fermented foods is helping many people stay healthy.

There are so many health related issues running rampant these days, that many people are going "back to natural." From obesity and diabetes to cancers that are being diagnosed daily, we are being scared regularly with illnesses that we simply don't have to live with. Lots of people are starting to fight back... for their health and the health of their loved ones.

Years ago, it was not an uncommon thing for families to have fermented foods. Whether the goal was preparing a desired dish or preserving a food that would be unavailable in the winter months, the art of fermenting food was part of every day life. In modern times, with a grocery store conveniently around most corners, lots of people have forgotten how to prepare foods for themselves. And we have lost much of the amazing goodness that comes with natural organic home preparation. But, there are several people that are bringing back the traditions of simply made foods like yogurt, butter and pickles - which are easy enough made that children can prepare them.

And with these simple recipes, along comes great benefits for the body that fight off several of the health issues that people face today. Fermented foods add beneficial bacteria that support our immune systems and lower allergy responses, they can decrease uncomfortable gastrointestinal distress (like gas and bloating), and they can help us with digestion of foods that we can become intolerant to (like dairy lactose). With some easy education, we can all bring high quality, nutrient dense, fermented delicacies to our kitchens. Kombucha, bone broths, sauerkraut and more can help us have the healthier bodies we all desire.
