Fox Run Residents/Staff to be in September "Walking Challenge"
Month-Long Active Aging Celebration in Novi, MI
Residents and staff of Fox Run retirement community will participate September 1 -30 in a “Walking Challenge” building competition for residents and departmental competition for staff based on percentage of participation based on current occupant levels and staffing levels. All participants will track the minutes they walk during the month.
They will be able to count time walked each day indoors and outdoors, on and around their 108-acre campus in Novi, MI or off campus that is continuous for the purpose of exercise. They will be able to count time spent on the treadmill or elliptical. Also, ½ the time spent in an exercise class may be counted. Time on a recumbent bike can be counted for residents who have any physical limitations. The event is intended to encourage everyone to move a little bit more, and be all-inclusive.
A Color Walk/Run will be held on September 26th in culmination of the month-long event. Residents and staff will wear their colorful shirts representing each building, and will be able to complete a course containing 3 color arches signifying mind, body and spirit that relate to board games, child’s games and TV game shows. This year participants will be asked to answer a Trivial Pursuit question to pass through the “mind” gate, correctly follow the instructions of Simon Says to pass through the “body” gate, and name the correct title or artist of a song in a Name that Tune “spirit” gate. All will be allowed to go around the course as little or as many times as they want, and all of the time on the course will count toward their individual monthly totals.
