Fox Run Turkey Trot Benefits Gleaner's Food Bank

"Gloria Giblet" and "Tom McStuffit" Have the Right Recipe

Residents of Fox Run retirement community were joined by 25 students from a 4th grade class from Meadowbrook School in Novi on Wednesday, November 12, to help kick-off their annual food drive to benefit Gleaner’s Food Bank in Pontiac, MI, which services all of Oakland County.

They did so in a somewhat unusual Turkey Trot.

Two frozen turkeys (pictured) were placed in a wagon on ice for the trot, which will later be donated for the cause. Residents were asked to suggest names for the girl and boy turkey, and the names were announced at the trot. The names “Gloria Giblet” and “Tom McStuffit” won.

Students then “dressed” the turkeys -- Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head style -- and escorted the birds to join the residents for cider and doughnuts.

Each child brought an item to donate. Residents will continue to contribute and help pack the boxes during the week before Thanksgiving.
