Meadowbrook Road Construction Affects Novi Road Detour

Meadowbrook Road will change to alternating two-way traffic for the next three weeks, making the detour from Novi Road more confusing.

With Novi Road closed for construction this summer, Novi residents have already had to alter their routes to drive around town. Now, motorists who use Meadowbrook Road as a detour will have to reroute again for the next three weeks.

Construction began Monday on Meadowbrook Road between 10 Mile Road and Cherry Hill Road and is expected to continue until Aug. 8.

Meadowbrook Road will remain open to alternating two-way traffic with flag control. The city strongly advises motorists to seek an alternate route.

Construction on both Novi Road and Meadowbrook Road was not meant to happen at the same time.

According to a press release from Novi, construction on Meadowbrook Road is beginning a year ahead of schedule because federal stimulus funding was moved up. Approximately 80 percent of the funding for the project is federal, and if Novi does not complete the project this year, it would lose the money.

Construction hours are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday to avoid the morning and evening rush hours.

The project will include road widening and resurfacing, installation of concrete curbs and gutters, sidewalks, ramps and pedestrian signal upgrades.
